Vintage Shirts

Our vintage shirts for men cover three families: the Hawaiian shirt with its tropical print, the bowling shirt with an open collar and contrasting panels, and the rockabilly shirt with bold graphic motifs. More than 130 designs, from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Hawaiian Shirts

The Hawaiian shirt for men was born in Honolulu in the 1930s and became a favourite after the war thanks to veterans of the Pacific. Palm trees, hibiscus, waves and parrots: it is worn open over a plain t-shirt, short sleeved and untucked. Our designs revive period prints in light, flowing fabrics.

There are two ways to wear it: the bold version, with a large print and bright colours over plain trousers, or the discreet one, with a tight pattern on a dark background that goes anywhere in summer.

Bowling Shirts

The bowling shirt, or camp shirt, is recognisable by its open collar, straight cut that falls to the hip and contrasting panels or piping. Born in American bowling leagues of the 1950s, it became the uniform of rock and roll fans. Black and cream, burgundy and grey, two tones that answer each other: it is the easiest piece in the collection to wear.

Rockabilly and 1950s Shirts

Flames, dice, playing cards, guitars or western prints: the rockabilly shirt embraces graphics. Short sleeves for summer, long sleeves with pearly snap buttons for the rest of the year. Wear it with turned-up jeans and a pair of vintage shoes.

How to Wear a Vintage Shirt

  • Casual — an open shirt over a plain vintage t-shirt, straight jeans and low trainers.
  • Summer — a Hawaiian shirt tucked into light cotton trousers, vintage sunglasses and espadrilles.
  • Retro evening — a two-tone bowling shirt, pleated trousers and a vintage watch.

Vintage Shirts: Quick FAQ

Which size should I choose?

Vintage cuts often fit closer to the body than current ready-to-wear. Go by the measurements given on each product page rather than your usual size.

How do I care for a vintage shirt?

Wash at 30°C on a delicate cycle with similar colours, air dry rather than tumble dry, and iron on a medium heat on the reverse to protect the prints.

Should a Hawaiian shirt be tucked in?

Traditionally not: the straight hem is made to fall over the hip. Tucked in, it looks smarter, which is best kept for discreet prints.
